Narrativa technology can fill information gaps effectively and instantly, freeing up journalists from tedious and repetitive tasks so that they can dedicate their time to journalism with higher added value.
Narrativa and El Periódico de Cataluña collaborated in the publication of the November 2019 general election results. On election night, the Catalan media published thousands of automatically generated news articles on the electoral results from the 8,131 municipalities of Spain.
The content was automatically generated by Narrativa technology using AI and deep learning, then the raw data was converted into natural-sounding narratives. The contents started to be generated as soon as counting began in the municipalities and continued until after the counting finished.
In all, Narrativa generated a total of 40,000 news items about the results from all municipalities, as well as data offerings at the provincial and national levels. El Periódico added electoral graphs and a municipality search engine to offer a more complete picture to viewers. The news was broadcast live and most of the stories ranked in the top positions on Google because of the amount of web traffic, giving readers the most accurate and high-quality information. Between the start of vote counting and Monday morning, more than 100,000 views were garnered. The most viewed articles were those reporting the results in places like L’Hospitalet, Terrasa, Melilla, Girona, Badalona and Alcalá de Henares.
The night of November 10 was the first time that viewers had been able to witness the broadcast of the general elections through content generated entirely by artificial intelligence, and with a high level of precision, quality and rigorous reporting.
