Narrativa joins the Radia program

By Sofía Sánchez González

Narrativa, one of the most internationally-renowned Spanish startups, joins the Radia program. This initiative promotes training in digital skills for women with disabilities and is backed by the ONCE Foundation, the Conference of Social Councils and the CEOE Foundation. The program develops their digital skills while increasing the diversity of professional teams in technology companies.

This is how Narrativa has come to host one of the participants of the program, who in the coming months will collaborate in the day-to-day running of the company under the mentorship of one member of the Narrativa team.

The person selected to work with us will improve their digital skills; gaining valuable experience and improving their profile so that they have a better chance in the job market.

It is important that institutions such as private companies and startups support this type of initiative. In the case of Narrativa, artificial intelligence is a disruptive technology that allows us to change the status quo; it is something that we already depend on in our day-to-day lives and it represents one of the most popular technologies around today.

What is the goal of the Radia program?

According to their website, the Radia program looks to promote the inclusion of women with disabilities in the digital space and increase the number of female professionals in the technology sector

Radia takes its name from Radia Perlman, the creator of one of the world’s most popular means of communication. Thanks to her, networks work correctly, enabling stable and secure navigation of the Internet.

Since she was very young, she was fascinated by math and logic. In school, she wasn’t interested in computers or electronic devices, but everything changed when she started IT classes in college: that’s where her interest began and, in 1960, took her to MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), where she was one of only a few dozen women studying (and where only one thousand women had ever graduated).

Only 1 in 6 ICT specialists are women

Currently, only 1 in 6 Information and Communication Technology specialists in the labor market are women. A striking fact, underlining the importance of the demands made during the International Day of Women and Girls in Science last March.

The gender gap in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) sectors is of particular concern globally. Fortunately, more and more initiatives seek to address this disparity, such as the Radia program, Mujeres Tech or Adalab in Spain.
