Segunda B and Tercera Division Playoffs: All the news on the updated format
By Narrativa Staff
Following the break due to the coronavirus outbreak, Spanish professional football has returned with the resumption of LaLigaSantander and LaLigaSmartbank. However, this was not the case for the lower tiers Segunda B and Tercera, whose fans were left without a league.
However, both competitions are now back with a promotion challenge, some new features and many unknowns to be resolved. Saturday 18th will see the start of an express format in which 16 clubs from Segunda B and 72 from Tercera will have to give their all if they want to move up.
At Narrativa we will be providing match reports on the promotion playoffs with all the highlights from each fixture.
What’s new this year?
Segunda B
Players will have to stay focused as the qualifying rounds will be played over one leg. The promotion battle will take place in Andalusia, with five stadiums already prepared for this weekend:
- La Rosaleda (Malaga)
- Marbella Football Centre (Marbella, Malaga)
- Estadio Municipal de Marbella (Marbella, Malaga)
- Estadio Ciudad de Málaga (Malaga)
- Nuevo Mirador de Algeciras (Cadiz)
All the matches will be played in a neutral venue and without the presence of fans. In the event of a draw, the game will go to extra time and then a penalty shoot-out, as usual.
In the 2020/2021 season an extra group will be added, so that there will be 5 teams in Segunda B with 100 teams in total. In addition, this time there will be no game to decide the league champion.
Tercera
As in Segunda, the qualifying rounds will not have a second leg, but will be played in a single fixture. The 18 groups of the Tercera will each have their own headquarters and will play within the same Autonomous Community to which the teams belong.
For games ending in a draw, a new rule has been introduced whereby the highest ranked team will advance to the next round: no extra time or penalties. 18 teams will go up, with 2 left over. It has not yet been decided what will happen with these two teams but the good news is that there will be no relegation this year.
New regulation
Both in Segunda B and Tercera a total of five substitutions will now be allowed and there will also be a regulation drinks break in the 30th minute of each half, modifications that have already been implemented in the higher leagues.
Narrativa’s news generation service makes content available to customers immediately, freeing up journalists from needless repetitive tasks and allowing them to focus on generating more in-depth content for their readers.
The Segunda B and Tercera divisions do not have great national media coverage, so this service could be indispensable for sports media throughout the country who want to cover this historic playoff.
In addition, we have improved the SEO of our content design, meaning that our customers will find themselves among the highest ranked positions in search engines thus increasing their web traffic. This also means fast interaction on social networks.
New notification service
Our systems also allow us to generate notifications every time an incident occurs on the pitch (goals, substitutions, yellow / red cards, VAR actions) and we have used this to launch a new notification service.
One key advantage of these alerts is the option of combining several competitions into the same service. Most other tools offering this kind of service usually focus exclusively on one league, so finding out results from several different leagues may require going to different sources.
In addition, as with our financial alert system, these alerts can be perfectly integrated into an ERP, CRM or any type of messaging service or company management application. This provides added value as there is no need to implement additional software to receive this information.
